Last year the yearbook staff archived 19,700 digital photos from the school year. When a parent would come in and ask to purchase or have pictures of his or her child I simply said no because I didn't have time to search the pictures. As a yearbook class we now maintain our subscription to Smug Mug which is an online photo storage and printing company. Anyone can order the photos and all payment information, printing, and shipping is handled by that company. We covered our subscription fee in the first month.
If the future I will teach more than 2 students to upload and maintain the site. We are having a hard time keeping up with uploading and tagging the photos. One of the major problems we had was when a student forgot to set the prices on the photos she uploaded. Two customers purchased their orders at our cost before we caught the error. We also realized we needed to set the right-click protection on the pictures and use the watermark service to prevent the pictures from being printed directly from the program.
