I teach Women's Fitness and Nutrition. One weakness I found was that this is a class based on participation and teaching in a small school in which many students need to be involved in many activities to make them successful, I was missing over 25% of my class on any given day. With coaching and yearbook responsibilities after school, it is not feasible to have my students make up the classes they miss. This fostered the beginning of the Women's Fitness Blog. When a student missed my class she must answer on of my blog questions in a thoughtful manner. Blogging was introduced at an inservice at West Holt High School, so I had the experience from that to get started.
This has helped me stay organized because all I have to do is look online to see who made up absences. There is no controversy because if it's not published on the site, a student can's insist she did it.
Sometimes there are difficulties that students can't post their responses, but they know that all they have to do is save the screen with the response on it that won't submit and e-mail it to me.
